Botanical Stories
Maki Teshima's solo art show at Understudy, Denver CO
Press Release Statement:
Experience Botanical Stories, a textile art exhibition by Maki Teshima that fosters a deep connection with nature. Maki’s work features silk organza pieces dyed entirely with organic materials collected from local restaurants, flower shops, and her personal gardens, each color holding a unique story and personal connection. Transparent fabric layers reveal new visuals as viewers move through the space, creating an ever-evolving display.
The exhibit also showcases Musubi//Connections, a project from 2023, which features "Kanou Musubi" (wishing knots) made from naturally dyed, repurposed t-shirts. Visitors are encouraged to add their own wishes, tying knots to symbolize unity with nature, culture, and community.
Denver Post featured the show in Arts and Culture section. Article was written by Ray Mark Rinaldi.
